چکیده

The coadsorption of H 2 and D 2 on Ru(0001) has been studied by thermal programmed desorption. An inverse kinetic isotope effect comparing H2, HD and D 2 desorption has been observed with D 2 desorption being most rapid for temperatures above 350 K. This effect is attributed to a normal isotopic enhancement of H(ads) penetration into subsurface sites on Ru(0001) during the rapid temperature rise of 10 K s-1 following low-temperature adsorption. Annealing an H(ads)+D(ads) monolayer to 362 K for 90 s eliminates tLe isotope effect in the desorption results by allowing sufficient time to establish an equilibrium distribution of both isotopes in the subsurface sites. These data are consistent with photoemission and HREELS results on (111) facets of Ni, Pt, Pd, and Cu which also have suggested facile H-penetration into subsurface sites.

Adsorption and Dissociation of CO2 on Ru(0001)

The adsorption and dissociation of carbon dioxide on a Ru(0001) single crystal surface was investigated by reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) spectroscopy for CO2 adsorbed at 85 K. RAIRS spectroscopy shows that the adsorption of CO2 on a Ru(0001) single crystal is partially dissociative, resulting in CO2 and CO. The CO vibrational mod...

Carbon monoxide oxidation on bare and Pt-modified Ru(101̄0) and Ru(0001) single crystal electrodes

Carbon monoxide oxidation on bare and Pt-modified ruthenium surfaces with the (101̄0) and (0001) orientations was investigated with cyclic voltammetry, scanning-tunneling microscopy and in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Facile oxidation kinetics of CO on Ru(101̄0) are observed, in contrast with a slow reaction on Ru(0001). Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements confirmed ...

Spontaneous deposition of Pt on the Ru(0001) surface

Spontaneous deposition of Pt on a Ru(0001) single crystal surface has been demonstrated by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy and linear sweep voltammetry techniques. The immersion of a ultra-high vacuum (UHV) prepared Ru single crystal in a platinum-ion-containing solution results in the formation of monolayer-to-multilayer Pt deposits without application of an external potential. The cover...

Electrosorption and catalytic properties of bare and Pt modified single crystal and nanostructured Ru surfaces

The electrosorption and catalytic properties of bare and Pt modified Ru(0001) and Ru(10−10) single crystal surfaces and carbon supported Ru nanoparticles have been studied by electrochemical, surface X-ray scattering, scanning tunneling microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy techniques. The electrochemical surface oxidation of Ru...

Factors controlling the CO intercalation of h-BN overlayers on Ru(0001).

The space between a two-dimensional (2D) material overlayer and a metal surface can be regarded as a nanoreactor, in which molecule adsorption and surface reaction may occur. In this work, we present CO intercalation under a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) overlayer on Ru(0001) at room temperature, observed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, and scann...
